Would a 5hp briggs&stratton engine be a good off road go kart engine?

Thursday Mar 12, 2009

I was just wondering it a 5hp briggs&stratton go kart engine would work on an off road go kart. would it work well off road?

It would most likely be an okay kart in the end with about a 15mph top speed I think… but most new karts for off road are using 6.5 – 18 horse motors and a 6.5 would be a perfect starter engine.

how can i build a strong wodden go kart or where could i buy a frame with a role cage?

Thursday Mar 12, 2009

i have an 8 horsepower briggs&stratton tiller engine and i was wondering if i could make a wodden go kart or buy a steel go kart frame with role cage ive tried ebay and amazon and i dont have a welder or know how to weld what can i do !????????????

if you crash and the board sheers you now have a spear riding on the kart, think about it, then hopefully you will decide to invest in a kart frame. or build one yourself it is a great way to learn to weld. good luck and have fun. just whatever you do don't make it out of wood very dangerous

My son wants to start Kart racing in the juniors… How do I get him involved?

Thursday Mar 12, 2009

He is 11 and he was great at MX racing but now he wants to start racing cart. I need to get him some good sponsors and a good race kart…

go to www.tsracing.com they list kart tracks by state. You should be able to find links to local clubs from there. Usually you can find karts for sale through a local club or kart shop. If you're by chance in southern/central Ohio check out our club at www.ovka.com An 11 year old will compete in Sportsman class which is age 8-12. Juniors are age 12-15. Good Luck & have fun!!!

What type of engine should I get for my go kart?

Thursday Mar 12, 2009

I'm building a go kart in my shop class at school and I don't know much about go kart engines. should I use a rideing lawn mower engine or somthing else. Would a riding lawn mower engine be able to go very fast, or would it be slow with more tork?

Haha, a mower engine would be fine as long as it has a horizontal shaft, a push mower with a vertical shaft obviously wont work and you can't just turn it on it's side.

That being said, find a cheapo beat up 2 stroke dirt bike 125 or 250cc, the engine already has a transmission with an external shifter and clutch lever that can be easily hooked up to gokart controls, and hold on for dear life :)
