where can i find a free go kart frame?

Friday May 1, 2009

how does that fit into bikes?

how do i attatch bicycle wheels to my go kart frame?

Friday May 1, 2009

While I know about bike wheels, I know little about Karts, nor can I even think of a reason you would want to do this. It will be a problem as the axels and bearing on a bike wheel couldn't be used. I imagine it might not be possible with standard bike wheels because the hubs will be too small.

How would I use a lawnmower engine to power a go cart?

Friday May 1, 2009

I've got a frame and an old push style lawn mower I'm about to rebuild. I'ts pretty weak (5.5 hp briggs) but I don't have much of a budget. The biggest dilema is getting the power to the rear wheels with the vertical shaft. I was thinking chain driven, little differential if they made them, rack and pinion gears, or maybe some kind of front engine with a driveshaft thing. I've been thinking about it a lot and I'm stumped, any ideas?

Thanks

have you ever seen a rear differential on a truck?

go to a junk yard, buy a ford 9 inch rear axle, make sure you get the driveshaft or at least cut the end of it off and take it with, get your welder weld the driveshaft yoke on the output shaft of the motor, now cut the axle tubes and the actual axles to the length you need, take that length out of the middle of the axle housings because the 9 inch axles are held in at the wheel end not the diff end. since its only a 5.5hp it will be fine… i dont know if i left some stuff out or not, once you get started you will see how its gonna come together.

oh and this would require some ground clearance that you might not have planned for, around here any kart gets mud tires.

How much effort would it take to get a motorcycle engine and turn it into a go kart engine?

Friday May 1, 2009

I have a little bit of engine knowledge (took a small engines class last year in school). but the ultimate goal is to make a go kart out of a motorcycle or dirt bike engine. any and all input is welcome.

more info: I was thinking a 250 2 stroke but i am extremely open to change.

Not much effort at all. You can cannibalize a lot of parts from the donor motorcycle. The biggest problem is getting the final gearing right. The circumference of a go-kart tire is much smaller than a motorcycle tire.

However this could be accomplished with a jack shaft.

This has already been done so you won't need to re-invent the wheel. There is a go kart racing series that already uses motorcycle engines. Open your favorite search engine and search for "motorcycle engine go kart" without the quotes.

There is one minor issue that you may find is that a 2 stroke motorcycle engine doesn't produce much torque at low RPM. This may be an issue when starting off or if you need to go slow. But look out once you get the go kart moving. You may want to wear a full face helmet to keep the bugs out of your teeth because you will consistently have an ear to ear grin on your face.

One other issue you may encounter is that you could very easily over-power your go-kart. If you use too much motor you could easily build a little 100+ mph death trap. Make sure your go kart, your riding area, and your driving abilities match the performance capabilities of your go kart.

Another option I have seen is to use a snowmobile engine and belt drive system. I have seen both. And both were wicked fast.

How do I build a go-kart with a motorbike engine?

Friday May 1, 2009

I would like to build a bike engine go-kart. Can anybody tell me the best way of going about this? and where to buy the parts from and also the best places to go for any track days once I've built it. Does anybody know if there is any cc limit on these tracks? cheers!!
