What is the easiest way to make a gas powered go kart?

Friday Jun 12, 2009

I am trying to figure out how to make a 2 seated gas powered go kart. I need some help on the basics like what is the cheapest engine, where can i get the supplies to build it?

I have always thought that if I was going to make a go-kart or off road cart, I would use a snowmobile engine…..get a liquid cooled and you could probably use the same clutch, etc right from a sled that was smashed in a junk yard.

If you are looking for a very powerful motor, try finding an Arctic Cat F6 or F7 that is fuel injected…….it would be super easy to start, it is a lay down motor taking up less room, it is liquid cooled and the F6 (600cc) is 118hp and the F7 (700cc) is 140hp! That would really haul!

Does this invention prove there is a God?

Friday Jun 12, 2009

The 14 M.P.H. Cooler – yup, a cooler with an engine. Not your typical gadget but still quite amusing to us so it makes the grade. Grab your favorite six pack and load it up for on the go drinking for close to a mere $500.

As the name implies the 14 M.P.H. Cooler goes up to 14MPH. It’s powered by a 500-watt electric motor. You can drive this baby up to 15 miles on a single charge, transporting with you in the insulated bin up to two six packs and a block of ice. The frame of this scooter is built from aircraft aluminum and the variable throttle looks to provide a riding experience similar to that of a golf cart.

And in case you don’t have a spot for your favorite beer there’s a cup holder located between the driver’s knees which opens to provide access to beverages inside the cooler as you zip along.

God provided Manna for the Jews when they were hungry.

God allowed a 14-year old kid named David to slay the most fearsome warrior the world has ever know.

God protected Daniel when he was cast into the Lion's den.

God protected the three when Jews when they were cast into the fiery furnace.

Do you REALLY think a motorized cooler falls into the same category as the heavenly miracles???

Me too!

How are you homeschooled? how does it work for you?

Friday Jun 12, 2009

In what way are you homeschooled? do you learn well from it? do you like it?

I want to get an idea of what works and what doesnt, both in terms of learning and in terms of how the people getting homeschooled like it.
My idea of homeschooling my kids would be to teach them most things through activities, i.e. the reason we have math in school is to apply it to things, so i would teach them math by applying it to certain things. public schools do that with really basic math, like counting blocks and adding and subtracting them, but once they get up to stuff it tends to be book work where instead they could teach us geometry by having us build things (i.e. not long ago i welded the frame for a go-cart. Interpreting the blueprints took geometry because it used angles, addition because i had to add all the things made out of the angle iron together in order to figure out how much of it to by, multiplication so that i didnt have to add same sized parts together to come up with the answer, and probably some other things i didnt think of).

I have lots more ideas but i just wanna know how you were homeschooled.

I wasn't officially homeschooled, as this was before homeschooling was really a known option in the early 80's, but I dropped out of school at age 14. My parents wouldn't have gone for it anyway, they were not schoolish people, they were working class and school was just what you did in my family until you were old enough to drop out and get a job. They didn't really care, they just waited to officially sign me out at 16. I educated myself, mostly by reading, which encouraged me to eventually get my GED and go on to finish college.

In homeschooling my children, we do take a mainly hands-on approach a lot like you described. We use a lot of math manipulatives and use math in cooking, building things, grocery shopping, planning our activities budgets– even games like Monopoly will help them learn to count money and Dungeons and Dragons to help them figure out statistics, odds and averages.

Other kinds of things we have done:

study an ecosystem at a local nature preserve (some things we did: took plaster prints of animal paw prints to identify them, tested for acid rain, kept a nature journal, identified plants, rocks and bugs with a field guide, and put together a nature photography project).

We've visited a lot of historic landmarks, and did projects to see what it was like to live at that time.

Currently we're "producing" our own cooking show for my 10 yr old son who wants to be a chef.

We use books of course, but more as a reference. I will stop and use paper and pencil to illustrate things, but I'm more concerned with getting across the concepts and how to apply them than drilling and testing the kids. Life offers so many learning opportunities, there's really no shortage of lessons.

Why are some steering wheels on Mario Kart Wii golden while playing online?

Friday Jun 12, 2009

Whilst playing online on Mario Kart Wii, next to players name it usually shows a picture of a wii wheel.
Why are some of these images golden wii wheels?

All the other answers i've seen here are all wrong, the golden wheel has nothing to do with your rank, you get a golden wheel next to your name if you always play with your wii wheel, never with gamecube controller, nunchuk, etc…
if you want one, just keep playing with your wii wheel

how to put a lawn mower motor on a go kart?

Friday Jun 12, 2009

i have a old lawn mover it has a 319 cc motor and i have a go kart frame it will fit put how do i put it to gether

Your typical lawn mower engine won't work because of the vertical crank shaft. You would need a way to transfer the engine output from vertical rotation to horizontal rotation.

If you try and run a vertical shaft motor on its side, it won't get the proper lubrication and will quickly fail. See the first link below to understand why a vertical shaft motor won't work for your application.

You need a horizontal shaft motor like the ones used in a roto tiller or a snow blower. These will also have more horse power than a lawn mower motor.

The second link below has lots of different new small engines. If you have a Harbor Freight store near by, you will find horizontal shaft engines there cheaper.

If a new engine is out of your budget, watch the classified section of your local news paper. Watch for a used roto tiller or a snow blower. You may also want to checkout the local yard sales for these items. For a go kart, look for something with at least 8 horse power.

You also need some sort of clutch mechanism. These typically use a centrifical clutch.

The third link you will find clutches. Without a clutch, there is no way to disengage the power to the wheels. There would be no way to start or stop and keep the engine running. The torque converter setup is the best way to go, but may be out of your budget. A centrifical clutch will cost you about $30. A torque converter setup will cost you about $225.

The third link also has lots of accessories you might need like motor mounts, chains, brakes, tires, steering, etc.
