i have a 1999 xr100 engine that i want to put it in a go kart the problem is i dont know how?

how would i do such a thing, the axels, should i use chain or drive belt, what should i use for the frame, could i use wheel barrel tires.. im just pondering this cool idea for a go kart but im not quite sure how to start, could you help?

i have no idea what a xr 100 engine is but as far as building a kart goes its often good to look for a used frame and go from there. if your in the states look up american power sports, they have lots of stuff you can use. what you should look to build depends on what you want the thing to do. i like karts that run on dirt well so i don’t know too much about most track karts. wheel barrow tires are probably a poor choice though. my latest kart uses tires from an old tiller cause i wanted good grip on dirt. try to think simple though since your new to it, a semi complete used kart with a frame and steering and brakes and such is a good start. welding one up from scratch is a lot of work, ive done several. i prefer to start with a used frame usually. there are far too many things to list here as far as what you can do, can you say more about where your going to use it?

Go kart Racing. Please help me out?

After i buy the rolling chassis with tires
then i buy this engine.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Yamaha-KT-100S-Clubman-Motor_W0QQitemZ260400096534QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Go_Kart_Parts_Accessories?hash=item260400096534&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A10|39%3A1|240%3A1318

what else will i need after that?
i will need a muffler and what else to get the kart going?
Dont wanna race it. just for fun

You will need an exhaust (muffler). You will need a clutch. You will need a chain and sprocket to fit your kart. You will also need a motor mount if the kart doesn’t already have one, and you have to make sure it matches whatever type of engine you want.

Also, be careful what engine you buy… many ‘racing’ KT-100 engines (and other racing kart engines) are jetted for alcohol… You need to make sure you buy one that is meant for gasoline, unless you know how to re-jet a carburetor.

How much does it cost to build a go kart frame?

My friends and I are going to build a go kart this summer and I am preparing a preliminary cost estimate. How much does it cost to build (i.e. cutting and welding) a frame together, and what would be a good material to build it out of (steel or chrome-moly)? There are some pre-built chassis around the internet, but they cost anywhere from $200 to $700. I am planning to use at least a 5hp engine and maybe a torque converter, so strength must be taken into account.

5 dollars and 25 cents.

*5.5hp honda engine with governor on a go kart*?

I have a 5.5 hp honda engine on a co kart and want to tweek it out a little. I have found aftermarket kits available for this engine that consist of different cam, head, intake, exhaust, carb and springs. Stock the engine spec is 3600rpm. One of the kits say 6000rpm. I’m wondering how they plan on running 6000 out of this engine without removing the governor. They show everything in the kit in the picture and it has no linkage for modifying the governor. I have no problem with bypassing the governor but I have heard alot of rumors that it will blow up the engine. I’m going to school for motorcycle mechanics and my instructor thinks the governor is only there for epa reasons so unless you have physically saw a motor like mine blow up dont just answer off rumor. It is an overhead valve engine so I would imagine it would float the valves before blowing the engine but I want to be sure.

The governor is there partly for EPA and also to control the engine under "normal" conditions, e.g. to allow load to be picked up when used in a lawnmower. You can safely bypass it, provided that you realize that this will take away a safety option of not allowing the engine to over rev. But as you really want to over rev it, what the heck! Obviously as a go kart engine a governor is a damned good definition of a useless motor!
