How to build a go kart?

You need to build a form first and then cover it with the fiberglass. Not actually a DIY project.

Should I get my son a go kart with 5-8 hp for around $500 or get go kart lessons 2 or 3 times for $400 each?

My son has been begging me for a go kart for 2 yrs and he wants to get a go kart with a roll cage and seat belt with 5-8 hp and he says he will ride it on our street. I want to get him go kart lessons at limerock in CT, once or twice for $400 a day but everything is included for the day like pads racing outfit and go kart. My son is 13 years old turning 14 in octber and going into high school and says he will wear a helmet and everything. Should I do the $400 lesson for a day or should i just get him a go kart with a roll cage and seatbelt and only allow him to ride it with a helmet and me or his dad watching?

Lessons are a must. Do this first.
Then if he likes it, you can lease a go cart or buy a used one.

How Do I Mount a Honda CBR 600 engine on to a kart frame?

First of all I know that motorcycle engines like a Honda CBR 600 engine is much faster than a smaller Rotax or TKM engine. However I have seen many videos showing that a Honda CBR 600 or 1000 engine can run properly. How much is the engine worth second hand and is there any wiring except for the exhaust and throttle. Isn’t there only one major thing that I need to do and that is make sure that the engine is connected to the chain. Will this work. My dad also told me about gears. I might not achieve the maximum speed without gears, although I don’t really want to have to make gears with a clutch, because it won’t work sometimes and can be a hassle. Also I don’t even know how to work the clutch. So I just want maximum speed with a throttle. On my frame I’ve got one rear disc brake and this may not be enough, so if anyone has any advice for me I will certainly be grateful. If I discover that my plans will work then I will consider buying the engine very soon.

Respectfully, unless you have access to a machining and fabrication equipment, or can afford to pay someone to do the work, I would not attempt this project.
A CBR600 motor can be used as the powerplant for a go-kart. But it would take a lot of redesign of the frame and the motor mounts. This is where the ability to fabricate, weld and machine will be needed.
Here is one aspect you will need to overcome.
How will you shift the engine?
You will need to design and manufacture a shift linkage that is mounted near the steering wheel that will rotate the shifting shaft on the lower left side of the engine mounted behind you.
How will you engage and disengage the clutch using a foot pedal when the clutch actuating lever is mounted (I believe) on the right side engine case?
How will you transmit the power from the engine to the drive axle?
What will you do to stiffen the frame to accommodate the extra weight and power?
If you successfully marry this engine to a kart frame, my hardy congratulations.

Electric Go Kart?

Me and a friend are workin on an electric go kart.
It started off as a Welding Class project, which we used a wench as a motor.
But now, we happened upon an electric scooter. My friend did the calculations and it appeared that the new scooter motor would go 21.9 mph. (When the wench only went 304 mph) We took the motor off, and modified our design to use the scooter motor but when my friend (who is dramtically lighter than i am XD ) got on it, it was a slow crawl. and of course to put salt in the wound, when he got off and was running beside it steering, he could hardily keep up.
My ques. is, what are ALL types of motors:

1)Meant to be used for a long period of time
and
2) Run on 12 volts

we are hopin to NOT spend ANY $ on it. b/c my friend had that go kart frame (which his father gave him) and the wench. Everything else, we got for free.

Please post SERIOUS answers.

Why? A good 15hp gas engine would do the job just as well.

Help installing radio in golf cart?

I am attempting to install a radio in a golf cart we use at our camp for kids with disabilities. The golf cart runs on six 6 volt batteries so I have installed one 12 volt battery in the back to operate 12 volt accessories. I’m not sure how to properly ground the 12 volt accessories. Can I run a line from all the 12 volt accessories to the negative terminal of the 12 volt battery? or, can I ground the negative terminal of the 12 volt battery to the frame of the golf cart and ground all the accessories to the frame? Any special tricks to grounding the radio antennae? Sure would appreciate any good advice. Thanks

You may connect the 12V(-) to the cart chassis but be careful not to connect the 12V(+) to the 6V(+).

You can use the chassis as ground for the accessories but make sure not to mix the 6V(+) and the 12V(+).
