how to design a go kart?

i love to make a go gokart or a 4wheel pedal bike that 4people can pedal in ther and 2 seats for children and i want to make it electric motor assist and it would be about 2 36v motors and it would be 4×4 and it can go to 75 kilometer/hour.
i have everything near me and it’s just my first time to make the chassis and i need help or a free designing program to design on it

sounds like an good idea. I don’t know of any free design software, autocad and solidworks are popular, but cost a few hundred bucks (guessing)

with 2 36v motors I think you could get to 75kph, however I think 4×4 drive would add considerable complexity. You might want to consider 1 or 2 hub motors to drive the rear wheel/s only.

go kart gas pedal hook up?

I have a used kart frame which I mounted a tecumseh 4 horse motor on.It has a gas pedal but I have no idea how to hook up cable to accelerate and decelerate. Do I need to take off anything? Buy new hardware, cable? Can anyone help, send photos on how to would really be great.Thank You!

There should be about a 1/4" hole in a piece of steel welded to the peddle. It takes a rod not a cable. The rod would go to the rear of the cart so look for a matching size hole on a bracket that pivots. The cable you want would attach to the other side of that bracket and run to the engine. Someone likely cannibalized the rod for something and you will need to fashion a replacement.

Looking to get into Go Kart/Shifter Kart Racing?

Well I race motocross, but since moving to the city I get to ride less and less. We have a go kart racing track near us, which would allow me to race alot more, while still being around motorsports. I have no clue how to go about getting into this, and if it means anything im about 6′ 175, 15 yr old. Any ideas? i.e., first kart, talking my dad into it? any help would be greatly appreciated…
thanks -hayden

Go to www.ekartingnews.com and click on the "new to karting" section. You’ll get tons of info to help you get started.

Don’t try to start out in a shifter. Much better to get some karting experience before trying to race one of those. At age 15, you have many options of what type of kart and class to run. You can start in Juniors (age 12-15) if you want, or jump right into the "senior" classes (age 15 & up) with the adults.

I recommend you start out in a KT100 Yamaha kart. Visit the local track and see what chassis are most commonly run. You’ll want the local support that comes from running what others are driving.

As for your Dad……….tell him all about how wonderfully family-oriented the sport is (which is true). Tell him about the emphasis on safety that karters have. Tell him about all the new friends HE’S going to make at the track (which he will). If he’s mechanically inclined, point out to him how great it’ll be working on your kart, and learning together with him. And most important: when you look at karts to buy, make him get in it and drive it. He will be hooked and will likely want to buy one for himself as well.

Good Luck, and have fun!!!!

My dad and i would like to build a 2 seater gas go kart but do not know where to get one any suggestions?

i want to build a nice go kart that uses gas and runs fine. it does not include the engine or the clutch i just need a nice kit…

Have a look at http://www.diygokarts.com/ and other places when you Google for it. Use synthetic 2-cycle oil if it’s a 2-cycle. If a 4 cycle, use synthetic oil in the crank.
