Shifter Kart Questions?

Im thinking about buying a used 125cc shifter kart, but first i have some questions.
1. What is the best motor/ chassis
2. what should I pay for a good used kart
3. Do you have any other tips?
I appreciate any help, but please only answer if you know what your talking about.

its would be pretty hard buying a shifter kart for cheap. Directly from the manufacturers are still pricy.
What i recommend is craigslist.com. Search for gokart or go kart and you’ll find a some in your local area and you might get lucky becuase sometimes they offer package deals for really cheap.
Things you need would b a helmet.
If your buying one from craigs, check if the tires are still good and not where down, check the engine in all means, check if it turns and breaks.
good lucky on your search

The ones surrounding the chassis and it says bell.

They are called "Spoilers"..They redirect air currents to reduce the drag…..

Racing Go Karts?

My Hubby is looking into starting to race go Karts, and we are looking for fundraising idea’s as well as any help or information on where to start. He has been looking on ebay for parts and items, he also has been looking for sponsers. We would appreciate any type of information on Go Karts and how you or someone you know got started.

Thanks

Here’s some sites to get you started:

www.ekartingnews.com (check out the forums and the "new to karting" section)

www.tsracing.com (I believe they also have a new to karting section, and they have a list of tracks, by state)

www.worldkarting.com

It would help to know where you’re located. Find the nearest tracks(s). Go to the track and tell anyone you see that you’re thinking about getting into karting. You’ll find more help than you can possibly absorb. Karters are great that way!

Don’t buy anything until you talk to folks at the local track; see what kinds of karts are most common at that track. There are many different kinds and brands (chassis). You want to have support from the local kart shop(s) and your best bet is to get what’s being raced there. I am in Ohio and most common here are the Yamaha KT100s, TaG, and some Briggs.

Forget about sponsors. At the club level, which is where you’ll be, it just don’t happen much. You’re most likely gonna be on your own. Expect to pay $2000-$3000 for a good used kart, plus $500 or so for safety gear (suit, gloves, helmet, neck brace). Plus assorted tools, kart stand, tires, etc.

Hope this gets you started, if I can be of any other help let me know. Good Luck!

how much does it cost to make a homemade go-kart?

i will have the engine soon but thats it. so i need the cost of all the other stuff frame, steering, brake throttle, tires ect.

It really depends on what kind of material you want to make it out of. Assuming you are really going to "make" it I hope you have a good welder b/c you’ll need it, along with some metal shop tool and a grinder. The frame will cost the most, but I would suggest steal or cast iron or something, especially if it is going to be driven by a kid. We had to put a roll cage on mine b/c I flipped it over a few times and almost broke my arm X_x. make sure to ad a back and front bumper too.

as for cable for the throttle and stuff, that’s pretty cheap, a few dollars if you get it from the right place. your brakes prices depend on what kind of brakes you want. you probably can’t have power brakes as most go-kart engines would be air cooled, so no belts really to turn pump.

Mine didn’t have suspension so it was just a tie rod with a single gear that would turn left and right.

tires could go anywhere between 20 to 100 for a set depending on if you just want radials or off road tires. we used lawnmower tires.

well good luck with your project! it took us about a year to build on the weekends. but that thing lasted for 5 years before i outgrew it and we sold it still running strong.

I miss that old thing icon smile how much does it cost to make a homemade go kart?

whats the best engine for a shifter go kart?

i already have the chassis now i need an engine but i dont know whats the best engine to get reliablity wise and speed wise. its for a racing shifter go kart

the best and most reliable engines for shifter karts are the yamaha yz125 or the honda cr125 kart engines both when run in stock configuration are very reliable.you can talk to swedetech engines and they can turn a shifter kart engine into a fire breathing monster for a lot of cash.
