Who can mount my motorcycle engine to a go kart?
hi my name is asif and i am building a go kart with a Yamaha 600cc engine. I have the go kart frame and the engine, but I’m confused on how to extend the back of the kart. This is because the engine is very large and heavy. I have everything I need to make it run, but do you know anyone who will be able to install the engine to the go kart? The work should be very simple. I’m very desperate to know where I can get it installed. It just needs drilling and screwing with brackets. How much would it cost for someone to do the job? I have all the electrics with the motor.
If I am not able to mount the engine I would offer this engine for sale. Do note that the engine iis very powerful – topping 130 mph – 72hp..
But I have a sprocket for the axle on the go kart which is longer than a usual go kart sprocket. And it would be too large for the chassis, as it would be touching the ground. What should I do?
Would that mean that I need larger rear wheels? But I don’t want to do that?
You should try asking this question in the Cars& Transportation > Other motor sports. this is the Motorcycle Racing section
I would have thought any decent motor mechanic would be able to help you with your problem, once you have shown them what you need.

Who manufactures Malibu Grand Prix’s 3/4 size go karts?
Two years ago I went to the Malibu Grand Prix in Redwood city and loved it. Now I have an idea and their 3/4 scale go kart is perfect for what I need.[Size HP and engine location mainly] I never tried asking the manger there since I never had the idea when I first went and I doubt he would be able to sell me one of the carts. I would rather go to the manufacturer and see if they may have a used one for sale and I’m boldly guessing that all of the Malibu Grand Prixs send their really old carts back to the factory for rebuilding and it’s one of those really old ones that I want to acquire.
I didn’t know Malibu Grand Prix was around that long! Which Craigslist are they on might I ask? Obviously I have no idea!
They were manufactured by malibu grand prix inc. in the 70′s. I have talked with a manager from malibu before and they do not sell them out to private people. If your interested in one I have 3 for sale on craigslist.

kart racing?
my husband and i were interested in starting our 4 yr old and 7 yr old in go kart racing. i am not able to find information on the type of kart and engine ect.. in which they have to have. i am also looking into what kind of gear they have to have, i looked on different web sites to find go karts for sale but cant find any. any suggestions????
Start at www.gokartracing.com There’s tons of info for the new karter, in an easy to read and understand format. Also vist www.worldkarting.com and go to www.tsracing.com where they have, among other things, a listing of kart tracks by state.
You will initially be looking at the Kid Kart class, which is for 5 to 7 year olds. (Sorry, the little one will have to wait till next birthday!). After that come the Sportsman age classes, which are age 8 to 12.
After you locate a local track, visit the track & watch them race. Usually all you have to do is say "we’re thinking about getting into this", and any self-respecting karter will immediately start filling you with more info than you can possibly absorb. (and probably offer to let your kids drive their kart to try it out!) With that in mind, DO find out where the local kart shops are. Usually they are hard to find unless you ask a karter. Visit the shop(s) and talk with them. I recommend starting with a used kart, a year or two old. Used Kid Karts can be had for around $1,000. Enjoy it–once they move up to Sportsman & above it gets more expensive, but by then you’re addicted to the sport anyway!!
As far as gear, a racing suit is a good idea although generally not required, but they will need jeans and a heavy jacket if they don’t have a suit. Also a helmet, neck brace, gloves, and chest protector. It will cost you $350-450 for all the gear (new) if you get a suit too.
You don’t say where you’re located, but if you are in or near central Ohio, come visit us at G&J Kartway in Camden. Our club site is www.ovka.com .
My son is 10 years old and we got into it last year. Now I race also, while my husband does all the work on the karts. It is an absolutely fantastic family sport filled with great people.
Hope all this helps, good luck and have fun!!!

should I buy a bigger engine than my friends?
me and a friend are building go-karts for the most part to keep the cost down we are buying the same matieral to build the frame and drive and steering system. engines is where we are having trouble I found one post on craigslist that has 3 5HP engines for sale all for 50$ thats one for each of us, but then the next day i saw another that had an 8HP engine being sold for 40$. one friend said it wouldnt be fair if he has a weaksauce engine while i have one near double his hp. the other friend does not know about this other engine. should i buy this engine i want to since i love speed and finding the engine was hard since were all building roughly the same kart I think i should get my say on what engine i put in it. my question is should i buy this engine or stick with one of the three 5HP engines that are being sold for 50$ for all 3 which may not run compared to one 8HP engine that does run for 40$ but has a broken pull rope problem?
Buy the 8 hp engine, it sounds like it will need a new brake cable and a new pull rope, but it will be better handling, better performance and longer life. Check the rebuild status by the number of hours on the engine, and weather or not it takes straight gas or an oil/gas mixture? Some of these engines require a rebuild after 50 hours or 100 hrs etc. Keep tract of the hours you put on the engine too. The pull ropes usually break because someone tries to start it and the break wasn’t releasing. If you know what your doing you will be ok with it. You can tell your friends that your getting an 8 hp engine because it is less money and only needs minor repairs, not because you are trying to outdo them. They should understand and you can let them try it out once and a while so they can see if they might want to upgrade too.
