My project for next summer?

Ok so i got a wild hair today of what i am gonna do with my free time next summer…before i even start i will say that i dont wanna here anything about how stupid this is because my entire life has and always be doing stupid things, i do stuff that entertains me and keeps me from turning my boredom into something much more destructive and more ilegal. anyways back to my point next summer i am planned to build a go kart but this is not just any go kart its gonna be a go car the size of a car, still in the planning stages of this but i am working hard at it…i would like to have a good soild frame full roll cage 1/4 inch sheet metal floor, maybe diamond plate 4 seats to take plenty of people with me thinking of having a removable roof. to power this i plan to take a chevy 350 with a 700R4 tranny, i am still working on weather or not to make it 4wd looking into the complications of it the engine is gonna be a carb to simplfly the running of the car…and the engine will be mounted to the rear of the vehicle being connected directly to a camaro posi trac rear end…i would also like to build a trailer for this to haul it places….so my question is does anyone have some helpful tips for me on this project any ideas, maybe some estimates on the cost of building this? thoughts comments anything you can offer would be great some areas i need more ideas in are brake set ups exhaust ideas suspention set up steering set up i am thinking of finding an old chevy truck to get most my parts off of so again any advise for me for my project would be great

removing rear seats and panels?

removing the rear seats and panels out of an 10 year old car will it make much diffence the car is only a 1.2 16v but i was wondering would it save me much fuel and also will the car be quicker pulling away would i feel the diffence???? what about removing the spare wheel?

i am young so i cant afford a really good car and i want to make the best of what i got so i want handling to be my fort so i got the car lowered on coil overs at the moment any other good ways to improve handling?

also do aerodynamic mirrors make much difference to speed?

and is there any cheap performance parts that i could buy that would make any improvement i just want the car to be like a go-kart. any help would be great:)

ok your young so you are looking to improve the speed of the vehicle for cheap. few tips the better the engine takes in and lets out air is a good thing , so high premormance intake (even a k&n helps* ) larger exhaust , removing wieght wont do much for a small engine. some small perks get a preformance chip for couple hundread and install it makes a change in fuel and spark and shift timing.
thats the best i can give you without any true engine mods:)

6.5hp Tecumseh straight pipe mod?

I have been trying to figure out how to put a straight pipe on my 6.5hp Tecumseh engine on my go kart. The problem i have is that it is flanged and not threaded. what can i use to make a custom straight pipe? i have a M.I.G. welder and my brother has another one that burns hotter. can’t remember type. i have some old bike seat posts. some seem to be just about a cm. or so to small for the hole.

I would go to a welding shop (to purchase metal). They probably have something better than some old bike seat pieces. You will probably have to build and drill your own flange. Good luck.

will my gokart speed increase ?mph?

um well i have a two seater go kart meant for two peoples weight but if i remove extra seat and make it a one seater and only ride bye myself will it increase my mph???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Reduction in weight will have an effect on more than top speed. Acceleration, handling, and braking will also be improved.

craigslist they want $1000 or way more and i dont even care if it doesnt have a motor seat or any thing but i want one cheap does anyone know were i can get one cheap or links or anything thanks

When we see a car we know that it is a car. When we see a go-kart, we know that it is a go-kart. But exactly how does the law decide if something is a car or a go-kart? After all, there are go-karts with seat belts and engines capable of 80 mph, just like a car, yet they are not allowed on public roads.

where can u get a nice go kart, moped,ect for under 1,000 dollars that goes over 30 mph that has 2 seats?

Have you considered looking in eBay or in one of those Auto Shopper publications? Sometimes people who own small engine or specialty engine shops have go karts and stuff too.

I have found a air shock at auto zone (Gabriel Hi Jackers / Shock/Strut ) I am going to cut my frame in half, weld on hinges 6 inches behind the seat, re-attach the frame then attach this specific air adjustable shock on both sides. my questioin is…. Will this shock work or does it need a spring or a chassi stop so it does not over compress and fail. I like the idea of a air shock so I can adjust the rear ride hight. Help me please!!!

You will need a spring. I would recommend getting a coil over shock/spring combo. They can be adjusted, depending on the one you get.

Building a go kart engine and frame? What to use?

I want to build a good, mud-capable go kart. I’m good with a welder, but I want to use a prebuilt frame (hopefully at a lower price). I’m good at working on small engines, but I don’t know how big of one to use, gear ratios etc. How much would a good frame with suspension, tires, seat, etc. cost and what should I get for an engine and gears? I have a fully equipped shop, so no worry about tools I do/don’t have. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Depending on how much you are willing to spend, here are my recommendations:
Get a tubular frame for cost and durability.
Stick to less than 350cc for decent performance. Anything more than that is not going to give you any returns in terms of milage.
If you want to go the extra length, Try the diamond frame, its better(and expensive)

Help finishing a Go-kart please?

I have recently aquired a Go-kart. It was 90% complete but i’ve just got some jobs to finish off, this is where i’m struggling. The go-kart is a race spec frame and wheels with a Kawasaki 100cc 2 stroke engine. the engine is mounted on the right of the drivers seat. The trouble i’m having is that the left peddle is connected up to the brake, the right peddle is connected to the throttle, you change gear by a lever to the right of you but i have no idea where to put the clutch and what kind of clutch lever to use, or where to mount it.

the best way to do this is to use the handle bar type clutch lever that came off or the dirt bike and put it right on the shifter,so when you grab the shifter to shift you just squeeze the clutch lever with the same hand and throw it into the next gear.that way you dont have a mess of pedals and levers all over the kart
