I race in a sealed engine go-kart league in Avon, NY. I am the slowest person in my class on the front stretch. Even the slower cars in the turns can zoom by me like I am standing still on the straight. I use a Coyote SS chassis, all the karts in my class are the same weight (+ -1 or 2lbs), and we use the same tires. This is a sealed class, so I can’t take out the governor or anything drastic like that. Any suggestions?
Gears. You are probably running a different gear ratio than the rest of the field. If it is a true sealed engine class. However, there are always ways to modify engines, and people will find out how to max out the rules in order to run a faster engine.
Go Karts – Going Faster?
Posted by admin | Under kart chasiss Sunday Jul 25, 2010what is a 250 national? whats the fastest kart you can buy?
Posted by admin | Under kart chasiss Wednesday Jul 21, 2010eg. how fast can it go? whats the engine make? whats the chassis like?
and what is the fastest 2 stroke kart you can buy
how fast does it go thanks
is it a kz1
You might be able to buy or make a faster one, but I’m pretty sure these are the fastest that are raced: http://www.250superkarts.com/
they are 250cc 2 strokes from motorcycles. These should be faster and more powerful then a kz1 engine.
Building a go-kart/small car?
Posted by admin | Under kart chasiss Saturday Jul 17, 2010Its going to be exoskeleton so there’s really no body except to cover the engine. Basically its just a frame with moving parts which makes it move. (eg no A/C)
__________________________________________________
All the parts that make a car move are coming from this 1970 carb corolla: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/Toyota_Corolla_front.jpg (engine, trans, etc…)
The parts go into this ready made chassis and frame: http://www.sdrsportscars.co.uk/images/chass/Jan%205th%20chassis%20pictures%202007%20014.jpg

Thanks for looking!
Ive labeled each link so you can present it as..
1.) – Yes you can use that one
2.) – Sorry thats not for your age group
E.t.c..!
Thanks for looking!!
You can use all of them except the last one. It needs qualyfying and a license.
Cheapest possible way to make a go kart?
Posted by admin | Under kart chasiss Thursday Jul 8, 2010Ok so I’m really into making a go kart but I only have maybe 100$ to spend. How would I make one?
What power source? (Im not pedaling!)
what would I make the chassis out of?
For the chassis, what material could i use? wood, pvc pipe, anything cheap and found at my local lowes.
To power it, could I use a cordless drill? how much HP would that punch out?
This isnt for racing.
Thanks,
Remeber im on a budget ![]()
Thick Plywood for chassis about 3ft x 6ft and 1" thick.
2 x 4"x6" for axles.
4 x wagon wheels.
4 x 20 penny nails.
3-4 ft rope for steering.
Ok, this will get you something with 4 wheels that will roll downhill for about $30-40. Possibly you can put a chainsaw motor to power a wheel and mostly to make vroom vroom noises as you roll downhill mostly powered by gravity.
Go-kart/ Dune buggy blueprints or plans?
Posted by admin | Under kart chasiss Sunday Jul 4, 2010Go-Kart/ Dune buggy plans or blueprints?
I want to build a two person go-kart with a 250 cc to a 600cc. Looking to get one to do some off roading not much but also work around the yard and land i have like pulling out dead tree branches and things, maybe to drive to and from my hunting standing and or without a deer in tow. Anyone know of any plans i am a welder and know my way around an engine but building a chassis is not in the knowledge yet.
Also i would like to have a short wheel base and a width of about 4 ft if not less…
Pulling trees and such you may want to consider a 1600 ish volks motor.
or using a FWD Mid engine design.
But the thing about buggies/sand rails is that in almost all cases you can save a lot of cash finding a complete one then building one from the ground up(works for many vehicle builds).
But then you loose out on saying you built it.
Now you can buy a complete frame(or copy one) then throw something like a manual rack/pinion steering setup with a basic sway coil over design. And most of these can be found by a (google) buggy/sand rail or race car search.
The designs will change but find what works and copy it.
For a off road buggy. You may want to start with a sand rail frame and fab in motor mounts for a FWD engine in the passenger side. No t case needed. The limited slip will give you a little play but for the most part you will have a very light weight 4wd buggy that can pull your stuff around without spinning the wheels all over the place.
Whoops missed the two person thing well it can still be done you just have to position the motor behind the passenger with the drive shafts between you both(covered of course).
Goodluck
Go kart road legality…?
Posted by admin | Under kart chasiss Wednesday Jun 30, 2010Hey all, I’m hoping to soon start building a go kart from scratch, which I believe gives me the perfect opportunity to make it to the specifications of the Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) scheme here in the UK.
The scheme says that I can build a 3 or 4 wheeled vehicle up to 250 kilos, but I can only have a 50cc engine OR I can build it OVER 350 kilos and be allowed to fit an engine up to 20hp.
In your opinion, which would be the best to conform to? Will a 50cc go kart be pathetic in speed and power, and if so, how do i go about building a 350 kilo machine!?
I’m planning to base the kart loosely on the new bat mobile and the Brute chopper from halo 3 (large wheels and heavy armour etc) and will have a body that encloses the driver.
Having said that, i still think it would be difficult to bulk it up to 350 kilos, a build a chassis that is structurally sound at that Weight.
Any help will be much appreciated!
I’m also trying to keep the complexity of it as simple as possible, as i have next to no engineering experience. Would it be possible to drive a vehicle of this size with single wheel drive using just a centrifugal clutch, sprocket and chain, or is there a limit to the size of ‘kart’ this will work on. I’ve seen some 13hp engines that look good and also correlating cluthes, but will be chain have enough strength?
The road legality scheme doesn’t cover how the engine/drive setup works or about suspention, so I really want to make expempt as much as possible.
Also forgot to mention that the design i’m hoping for is a little odd. I want large front wheels about 1.5 meters apart, driven by the engine directly on top.
The back wheels with only be 70ish cenitmeters apart on a short axle, able to rotate independantly. The axle will have a pole leading vertically upwards into the chassis giving the buggy the appearance of a reverse tricycle.
The steeing will be directed by the back wheels via a simple mechanism that i have yet to think of ![]()
And just a shitty birdseye view pic to demonstrate…

I think your best to go with the 20hp. You’ll have alot more fun and it will be worth the effort. (For those that don’t work in kg’s 350 is about 770lbs.) This isn’t really that heavy. By the time you get your rims, tires, and engine, your already looking at 50+ kg right there. then you have your chasis, doors. Electronics, brakes, hydrolic system (for the brakes) seats, lights.. it all adds up. Don’t forget about your drivetrain. Transmission. Your probably going to be having a hard time keeping the weight down.
i should also say, based on your description of what your basing it off of. it’s more like a dune buggy than a gokart.
Based on additional information, Dirtbikes have more power and are chain driven, snowmobiles use centrifugal clutches and have more power, so from that aspect your probably going to be fine. You might have problems with suspension movement and chain length. But i’m sure you’ll figure that out with a little trial and error. Also, you might want to reconsider your design, a narrow backend and using it to steer the kart is VERY unstable. As such, not very good for off road. Your best to look into a rear wheel drive (it will be must more simple to build and will accelerate better if you have low gears with lots of bite, which you should for off road) and then get your front wheels to turn. This will increase your stability, control, and comfort of driving.
is this a good begginner go kart?
Posted by admin | Under kart chasiss Friday Jun 25, 2010http://msokc.darkcrystal.org/board/ads_item.php?id=181 ….. that guy offered me his chassis for $1200 just wondering if its a good chasis for a begginner (first kart) and im 15 years old and 5’10 and im going to race and he would also hook me up with a 100cc or 125cc engine for all together $2500-$3000
Willis,
It’s a decent deal for the chassis. I don’t know the seller personally, but I know of him and would say he’s trustworthy, wouldn’t try to rip you off. That being said, I think you could take his deal and be just fine. However, there are also many other good karts for sale in the area that you could get for less. Email me, we’ll talk. And thanks for the best answer on your other question!
Go kart Racing. Getting Started?
Posted by admin | Under kart chasiss Sunday Jun 20, 2010After i buy the rolling chassis with tires
then i buy this engine.

what else will i need after that?
i will need a muffler and what else to get the kart going?
You will need a racing track of course.
Karting part1 Rnd 8 (’07) TKM Motors TV UK Karting Challenge

THIS IS THE FIRST OF TWO PARTS
Can Lyell win this – from the very last place on the grid?
Watch the TKM Extreme class in round 8 of this national karting series. This round was held on 26th August 2007 at Lydd International Raceway, on the south coast of England (nearly in France!). This is a unique series where the championship leaders all start at the back, in reverse order – so there’s always lots of overtaking. It’s held over 10 rounds so the championship is beginning to shape up. Watch young Scottish Driver Martyn Lyell, using is Clan prepared engines on a JKH chassis come from the very last spot on the grid in great style.
