New and Improved Electric Go-Kart Project

we re-vamped the electric go kart. it now goes faster and looks cooler, now in red!

this a short video of the electric go kart. We started out with a gasoline powered go kart frame/kit, and converted it all to electric then assembled it. it took about 6 weeks, and it still isn’t completely done. It uses a Kelly PWM controller and a MET motor running on 24v.

Having fun in my homemade go kart.

For those saying I’m going slow. Yes, I know I am. I have no seat belt and do not have a helmet. Then I’m on a narrow street with brick mail boxes and kids running around. Lastly the tires are wore out and do not grip, so loosing control is very easy. I would like to live. Thanks for watching.

V12 Go-kart making a donut

Yes I know, engine in the wrong end.
The go-kart weights 1050 kg. total
Rear axle load, 385 Kg app.
Front Axle load, 668 Kg app.

The go-kart is build only for fun, no reason what so ever, beside that I could!

I scored the old BMW 750i, V12 5.0L for 1.000$ which is cheep here in Denmark. It has (or had) 300 hp and 450 nm. Electronically limited to 250 km/h

My first plan with the BMW was to scrap it all except for the engine. The engine should then have been mounted in a stand, so I could start it from time to time, just to hear the ROAR.

As disassembling progressed I came up with the idea of a tire burning machine.
I reused the front and aft suspension, motor and transmission. Shortened the transmission shaft by 50 cm, welded it all together in a new frame and put some seats in from an Toyota Supra mk3
The wiring and hydraulics was a great challenge as the 750i comes with tons and millions of wires and pipes. It all turned out working: traction control/asc, abs, cruise control, power steering and Self-leveling suspension. Ok for a go-kart.
The result is what you see in this video. Last summer I redesigned the snout a little bit so it looks speedier (not shown on this video).

The go-kart is super for smoking tires, spinning around and showing off, and with traction control engaged it has a pretty fast acceleration also.
Beside for fun and great noise (the video doesnt compliment the noise thou), it is absolutely useless.

Comet Torque Converter Electric Go Kart

The drive side didn’t push out the belt completely until the motor was hooked directly to the batteries through relays first through 24 volt and then finally through the 48 volt relay. Go kart has a homemade frame driven by a 36 volt caterpillar motor if anyone recognizes it please tell me the model so I can find the specs. Its controlled by a 36 to 48 volt Curtis controller that just doesn’t have enough umpff to power this large motor it is only used for taking off then I use the relays to accelerate. More videos coming soon.

Homemade 31cc petrol rc car build Part 8

Lathed out the sprocket and welded that on the clutch drum, mounted the axle and hooked up the drive train. Now theres just steering to hook up and throttle servo to setup.

Val Doonican-O’Rafferty’s Motor Car (with lyrics)

Val Doonican sings this well good it is written by Tommie Connor.
This finishes a trilogy of Val Doonican songs which I enjoyed when young and hope others have discovered and will also reap benefit from. The pictures I have added are mostly gleaned from the tinternet via Google Images. Paint Shop Pro 10 has helped me adjust and add to them. The motor that has been adapted for O’Rafferty’s motor car was a Ford Model “A”
Roadster through the years of 1929-32 … I think.
The map where it shows the shaky road between Dublin and Cork is pretty accurate … and the pics of O’Connell Street are from … I guess the 20′s and 30′s … the GPO being an up to date photograph. As I have said before … Hope you get a smile and some pleasure out of this.
Post Script … Look out for Paddy McGinty’s Goat and Delaney’s Donkey, the other two of Val Doonican songs. Rock on Val …
