Go Kart sanding and frame prep!
This is one of the go kart frames that I am preparing at the moment. I used the grinder with a twisted metal wire cup to remove all the rust and old paint. I removed all of the paint and smooth sanded the frame with the air die grinder and a medium sanding wheel. I used rust remover, primed, and painted the frame. This is just a small clip of the paint removal process.

12 Horsepower Monster Rear Engine Home made Street Go Kart testing part 1
This video is a collection of clips that were shot during the building and testing of our street kart. Most of the parts were donated or scavenged. It was built for under $100.
-The frame was made of scavenged galvanized water pipe (extremely heavy)
-Engine is a 12 Hp cast iron Briggs and Stratton with an aluminum piston and a massive flywheel.
-Paint color is Krylon safety blue
-Tires were donated.
-Fastest Lap around Driveway held by Jeff at 7.8 seconds
Only parts bought were tie rods, bearings, axle, brakes and steering wheel.
It was configured to run with either the centrifugal clutch, or a direct drive belt system that you could push start like a sprint car. The engine weighs so much that when combined with rider and frame it was nearly 500 lbs. It handled very well. In the direct drive configuration the power from the massive engine would cause the front end to jump forward with every piston stroke. The whole thing sat about an inch and a half off the ground causing some interesting sparks going up and down driveways. Future upgrades include front suspension, 3 speed gearbox and a lightened box tube frame.
