Go Karting 2
More thrashing of the go karts!
thank you, we enjoy making the videos.
We use 4 karts primarily.
Three of which are coyote frames.
2 karts use 5.5hp briggs motors.
2 karts use 6.5 honda clone motors.
The clone motors are way better. You can get them for about $160 at harbor freight.
engine mods vary and include:
open header, bigger air cleaner and enlarging the jet.
Fuel is premium (93 octane) gasoline.
My engine is a clone with the original exhaust gutted and the original air cleaner flipped over to clear the tire.
Ground clearance ranges from 1 inch to 2 inches.
As far as reliability, you really have to keep the air cleaners in good shape. we service everything, everytime we drive.
My stock air cleaner is cleaned with gas, then soaked in oil and then I put grease (very important) around all the edges so nothing slips by. The larger filters are oiled and wrapped with a prefilter. Dirt and dust are the enemy.
The clutches are 16 tooth basic noram racing clutches (heavy shoes with red springs). The tires are burris d21 or ss11 (super soft). Tire compound is critical for wet grass. We dont allow rain tires because we want to protect the grass. We reseed about 800 feet of the track every year (and then we kill it all in about an hour. The rear gears are 63 tooth. We buy the quality gears and best chains we can find. Everything gets worn out in 1 year and we have to replace all bearings, rear sprocket, chains and rebuild the clutches. The engines, with very good maintenance, will last for years. We all run the same gear ratio. I think its 1 : 3.94
Tire pressures are from 4 psi to 10 psi depending on track conditions. We have a liability waiver and lots of rules. We use hand signals and number all of our turns.
The best frames have a wide front end. The coyote widetrack is an excellent frame for this. We scale our karts and add weight if necessary. The wight ratio is 42% front and 58% rear or as close as you can get. Side balance is equal.
I should make a video of all the prep and setup steps.
It’s a lot of maintenance and work for a little play.
We work on them for hours and drive them for minutes.
I hope that helps. Feel free to ask any more questions.
Good luck, and have fun.

12 Horsepower Monster Rear Engine Home made Street Go Kart testing part 1
This video is a collection of clips that were shot during the building and testing of our street kart. Most of the parts were donated or scavenged. It was built for under $100.
-The frame was made of scavenged galvanized water pipe (extremely heavy)
-Engine is a 12 Hp cast iron Briggs and Stratton with an aluminum piston and a massive flywheel.
-Paint color is Krylon safety blue
-Tires were donated.
-Fastest Lap around Driveway held by Jeff at 7.8 seconds
Only parts bought were tie rods, bearings, axle, brakes and steering wheel.
It was configured to run with either the centrifugal clutch, or a direct drive belt system that you could push start like a sprint car. The engine weighs so much that when combined with rider and frame it was nearly 500 lbs. It handled very well. In the direct drive configuration the power from the massive engine would cause the front end to jump forward with every piston stroke. The whole thing sat about an inch and a half off the ground causing some interesting sparks going up and down driveways. Future upgrades include front suspension, 3 speed gearbox and a lightened box tube frame.
If you have any questions or comments feel free to respond. Enjoy

Galletta’s Go-Karts 2009 Vol 4 Highlights Part 2 from 7/5/2009 RACING & CRASH CLIPS
http://gallettasgreenhouse.com/gokarts/20090705.html
Galletta’s Karting Club – 2009 Season, Week 4 (Part 2 of 2):
The Gas Flathead Championship Series of Oswego, NY continued on
Sunday, July 5th, 2009 at John J. Galletta Memorial Speedway:
After Buddy Cottom won the first 30-lap feature, we inverted the field for the second. A small pileup occurred on lap one when Fred Collins lost a chain (due to a hub that is now getting replaced) then enabled Chris Stevens to take the lead. Gary Miller and Buddy Cottom ran strong, but both of their karts succumbed to the 60 laps of racing, setting up the always tremendous battle between brothers Cris and Matt Stevens – the Galletta’s Karting Club Founders – which harked back to the early 1990s when it was ONLY Chris and Matt out there. Chris, who considers himself to be the only “Matt-stopper”, was able to hold off Matt’s advances, although Mighty Matty took his patented slingshot move on the final lap to try to get his 3rd win of the year. 1st – Chris (#8) gave him plenty of room, nipped him by a bumper, and took his first win since last season. 2nd – Matt Stevens (#33), 3rd – Melissa Stevens (#80), 4th – Soliman Barakat (#4), 5th – Asaad Al-Hanami (#1), 6th – Gary Miller (#24/DNF), 7th – Fred Collins (#9/DNF), 8th – Buddy Cottom (#6/DNF), 9th – Kelly Miller (#4/DNS), and 10th – Austin Hicks #0/DNS). Credited with 11th-13th were Rookie Powder-Puff drivers Nazeha Al-Hanini, Terry Miller, and Neaiamh Al-Hanini.
NOTE: All karts are 1-WD and all Motors are 1-WD 5hp Gas Flatheads with Stock ’90s Carb, shaved head, and select pre-approved Dyno Racing Cams. This means fast, equal speeds and, cheater-free engine-builders, all for low prices.
Galletta’s Go-Karting Club races eight to fifteen extremely affordable Gas Flathead-powered Go-Karts competitively every weekend between June through November annually behind Galletta’s Greenhouse in Oswego, NY, USA. Our racing karts are built to be highly affordable, with fast speeds and safety for low prices – so people who will bash and say, “they’re slow” and “they turn the wrong way” will either get ripped and/or just deleted were not looking to make the fastest race cars, were looking to make the most equalized and affordable racing machines known to man and race friends and family FOR FUN! The point is to make a highly competitive racing club for roughly $400-700 per kart (instead of the cookie-cutter methanol racing karts which cost $3,000-7,000) and extremely cheap expenses – 1-WD, gas run, and a limit on parts to keep things VERY affordable and VERY fast. We also tally points, and have weekly pictures, videos, and website descriptions to every race, including every year of our history (since 1996) and every single race since 2005, which most high-end WKA/NKA-esque kart series dont do.
These are low-resolution highlight reels from our much higher-quality DVDs, which are available on our website for $5 each, and go from one hour to three hours each, PACKED with clean, exciting racing action, and the occasional fantastic flip or crash. We’re always looking for new people (rookie or experienced vet) to join us! We have 12 karts, many of them are open for newcomers almost every race. Come on out!
