Removing or Adjusting The Governor On a Tecumseh OHH60 Engine?
Posted by admin | Under Uncategorized Friday Sep 4, 2009I would like to know how to make my GO kart faster without hurting my engine… I thought about a new carb., piston, exhaust, and a new head but i couldn’t find any parts for my Tecumseh OHH60 engine. So i thought i would remove the Governor. How do i do that
Well i don’t want to hurt it to bad
E is right, don’t fool with the governor.
You can alter speed by changing the final drive ratio. Put a sprocket with more teeth on the engine this will make it go faster. However, you won't have as much power. As the speed increses of a fixed drive system, the power drops, and vise-versa.
Good luck.

The governor is there to protect your engine. You said you don’t want to hurt your engine so I would stick with your original plan and keep searching for other mods to make.

you take the governor spring off and replace it with a strait rod,,but let me warn you,,when you do this,,it,s going to run wide open at times, and it may get a little unsafe,,also you will have nothing to save your engine,,from over running,,it may do some damage to it,,but it,s easy to do,,just be care-full,this can be a dangerous thing to do,,good luck with it.

You will not gain that much speed by modifying the governor. If your Go kart is not equipped with a torque converter upgrading to one would gain you acceleration and speed over a typical centrifugal clutch. Torque converters consist of two variable pitch pulleys and a belt drive. Essentially you get an infinitely variable transmission within the confine of the pulley’s diameter. And or you can change your final drive by changing your drive or slave sprocket diameter IE: how many teeth.
